Averting Disaster with a Centralized Inventory Management System
Presented by: Anne Sefried, Product Manager, Dassault Systèmes BIOVIA

Every research organization, from individual labs to multinational groups, strives to promote the advancement of science while ensuring a safe environment for their workers. A key step in maintaining lab safety via EPA and OSHA compliance is chemical inventory management.

According to a recent survey of EHS Professionals 33.5% of respondents cited exposure to toxic chemicals and chemical management as their greatest concerns. This is especially true for larger organizations: the complexity of tracking thousands of individual containers is overwhelming when managed by home grown, legacy, or Excel-based systems. Not knowing what is in a given cabinet – or how old it is – creates substantial risk for both researchers and the entire organization.

Attend this webinar and learn how three well known organizations have used real-time tracking of hazardous chemicals to cut their chemical inventory by 50%; correct current and avoid future hazardous situations; and realize the cost of an inventory system can dwarf the cost of an actual disaster and the negative publicity that follows.

Without a centralized system to alert researchers, ensuring safety becomes an almost insurmountable challenge.

Register today and learn how proper chemical inventory management can help avert disaster – and the costs when corners are cut.

Synchronized Management of Chemical Inventory and SDS – The CISPro and Sitehawk Integration
Presented by: Anne Sefried Product Manager/Field Applications Engineer for CISPRo and Josh Edwards, Director of Business Development at SiteHawk

Chemical and Pharmaceutical companies routinely work with controlled substances and as such must actively ensure they are remaining compliant within today’s dynamic international legislative environment. This becomes even more complex as more companies globalize and externalize, synthesizing, storing and transporting numerous compounds across multiple geographies.

BIOVIA and Scitegrity, Ltd. have teamed up to develop the Controlled Substance Compliance Service (CSCS) Module for BIOVIA CISPro. CSCS enables scientists to screen their chemicals inventory for controlled substances and their corresponding regulations by their chemical structure, adds it to the BIOVIA CISPro entry for future reference, and updates as legislations change. Scientists can quickly reference the specific legislation pertaining to their substance and reference what related structures qualify with a few clicks. It removes the need to spend hours digging through the thousands of pages of regulations that surround controlled substances, allowing scientists to focus on science.

In this webinar, the BIOVIA experts will discuss how CSCS ensures that teams can always take the proper care when handling controlled substances across their entire organization. Also, we will show that by leveraging the powerful data framework of BIOVIA CISPro, organizations can effortlessly make controlled substance compliance a part of their daily workflows, making regulatory audit worries a thing of the past.

Join us and learn how to:

  • Increase efficiency of your materials and laboratory workflows
  • Reduce your chemical inventory costs and waste
  • Improve compliance through automation of an integrated system
  • Eliminate business risks with better oversight and reliability

Chemical Management: A Multifunctional Approach for Delivering a Robust Chemical Management Program
Presented by: Tom Lillie

Knowledge of materials is the lifeblood of a product development organization. Material data is needed for employee and customer safety, environmental monitoring and disposal, material and formula development, product registration, and quality. However, responsibilities for managing materials often reside with multiple entities within an organization; typically, these entities do not take advantage of the synergies between their needs. This presentation will examine the effectiveness of a multidisciplinary approach in achieving a cost-effective and sustainable chemical management program.

During this session, attendees will learn how to optimize the collection and maintenance of data, minimize the organizational cost, and apply a staged implementation of an agile application that can deliver benefits across an entire organization while providing a more robust chemical management solution.

Global Implementation of a Centralized Chemical Inventory System at The Dow Chemical Company
Presented by Matt Whaley, Associate Research Scientist, The Dow Chemical Company and Bryan Billings, Sr. Technical Specialist, BIOVIA CISPro

Have you ever wondered what it takes for a company to stay in business for more than a century? For The Dow Chemical Company, the answer lies in continual global innovation and investment in R&D. When problems arise, Dow finds solutions.

One such problem was how chemical inventory was managed. In-house systems had been developed and off-the-shelf spreadsheet software worked fine … until the chemical turnover exceeded the ability of these solutions to enable the labs to operate efficiently. Worse, with some data in one system and some in another, there was minimal ownership or detailed chemical location information available. Labs ordered chemicals that were already on site, causing unnecessary costs and wasted time. As a result, in 2013, The Dow Chemical Company began a pilot of a digital chemical inventory system within a single building in Midland, MI. One year later, Dow is rolling out this system to sites across the globe with an emphasis on its use to improve safety, regulatory compliance and cost savings.

During this webinar, Dr. Matt Whaley will describe the drivers for the implementation of a globally standardized chemical inventory system, the challenges of using such a system across multiple geographies with different languages and regulatory issues, and the workflow changes and efficiency improvements that have benefited researchers in the laboratories.

Bridging the Gap Between Lab Chemical Management and EHS Compliance

The frequency with which federal, state and local chemical safety regulations are being updated is not only occurring more often, but also increasing in number and complexity – making it difficult to ensure compliance. Further complicating the challenge is the workflow gap between the lab that uses the chemicals and EHS that must file accurate chemical regulatory reports. It is vital that research organizations deploy efficient processes and systems that enable laboratory and EHS managers to easily comply with the regulations, ensure safe chemical management, and produce accurate chemical inventory reports. This webinar examines the obstacles organizations face ensuring chemical compliance and solutions for bridging the gap between the lab and EHS. Register today!
