BIOVIA Notebook Cloud is hosted in a state-of-the-art SAS 70, Type II compliant data center, using some of the most advanced Internet technology to keep your data safe and protected at all times.

Confidentiality: Prevent the Disclosure of Information to Unauthorized Individuals or systems BIOVIA Notebook Cloud address

  • Encrypting all traffic to and from the Customer to the BIOVIA Notebook Cloud.
    • We use Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS) that encrypts all data sent across the Internet and secures the identification of the BIOVIA Notebook Cloud service via a server certificate.
    • HTTPs ensure reasonable protection from “eavesdroppers” and “man-in-the-middle attacks”.
  • Utilizing Oracle system and object privileges prevent unauthorized access of information.
    • We use Oracle user repository functionality for username and password authentication.
    • We secure all pre-defined Oracle accounts, and only our own Operation staff has administrator access to the database.
    • We have a limited number of individuals that have access to BIOVIA Notebook Cloud servers. These are operation and support staff including Oracle DBAs.
      • A small and limited group of employees have access.

Integrity: Prevent Unauthorized Data Modification

  • BIOVIA Notebook Cloud stores all customer data in an Oracle Database in order to provide database integrity.
  • All data updates are through store procedures, that are tested as part of our development process.
  • User sessions are logged and the identity of the users who update data is recorded.

Availability: Prevent Service Disruptions
Our partner Rackspace provides:

  • Data Centers and Network Operations Centre (NOC) that are manned 24/7/365.
  • Capacity Management process to ensure the availability of all required resources such as bandwidth, data center capacity and utilities (power, cooling, etc.)
  • Firewalls are configured with Access Command Lists (ACL) which prevent access to private internal IPs and deny access to all non-Administrative ports.
  • Routers configured to prevent Denial of Service (DoS) attacks through the use of anti-spoofing Access Control Listings (ACLs).

  • 24/7/365 support function and monitoring in place to secure the availability of BIOVIA Notebook Cloud.
  • Commitment to continue to improve the redundancy and performance of BIOVIA Notebook Cloud.

Authenticity: Validate all parties involved

  • Our Partner provides a dedicated management net which our operation staff accesses via a dedicated service.

Remote administrative login on our servers is limited to our own IP address range.

  • We use certificates that secure you as a BIOVIA Notebook Cloud user which is connected to the BIOVIA Notebook Cloud service, rather than impersonators.
  • We validate all login via the Oracle user repository and establish a session via HTTPS.
  • Password Rules to Comply with 21 CFR Part 11 (Optional)

Additional information on the data center:


  • Multiple levels of security to ensure only data center Operations Engineers are physically allowed near routers, switches and servers. Public access to each data center is strictly forbidden.
  • CCTV surveillance of the entire data center building, including entrances and the data center itself, 24x7x365.
  • On-site security personnel monitor the data center 24 hours a day, 7 days a week Access to the data center is restricted to those who hold a pass card.
  • Biometric hand scanners are used to restrict access to the data center to only level 3 Engineers.
  • All employees are given a thorough background check before they are hired and all personnel go through a rigorous training process before they begin interacting with customers and their systems.

Environmental Controls

  • The HVAC (Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning) systems are n + 1 redundant to ensure that even in the event of an entire HVAC failure there is a duplicate system on standby to take over. All air is
  • Circulated and filtered every 90 seconds to remove dust and contaminants. An advanced fire-suppression system is in place to prevent any fire from spreading – in the unlikely event that one could start.
  • All cables to servers and routing equipment are securely tied down and cable racks suspended from the ceiling provide dual routes for all cables.

Power Systems

  • The power systems have been designed to run uninterrupted even in the unlikely event of a total power outage. All servers are fed with conditioned UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) power that will run if utility power fails. The UPS power subsystem is N + 1 redundant with instantaneous failover in the case that primary UPS fails.
  • In the event of an extended power outage, on-site diesel generators can run indefinitely. Generators are regularly tested to ensure functionality in the event of an emergency.

Zero Downtime Network

  • The network is engineered from the ground up to accommodate the high availability demands of our customers. Our Cisco-powered Zero-downtime network™ with unique self-healing attributes is based on multiple bandwidth providers and BGP4 (Border Gateway Protocol) for best case routing. This ensures the data reaches the end user in the fastest, most efficient manner possible.
  • Peering agreements with local ISPs allow the fast delivery of packets when possible.
